Construction diary:

December 2005

12/22

The second floor is almost all done.  I got a chance to get up on the second floor and see the view.  It is amazing.  We are up at the tree top level and have a really nice view.  We have started to be able to see just a few houses through the tree tops, but they are all so far away, you really have to look to see them.

The house is really beginning to take shape.  All of the entire main floor is framed in.  You can see where all the rooms/closets/doors/hallways are.  They were starting on the 2nd floor walls on Friday.  I came out to the site early, but it was too snowy/slippery to get up on the 2nd floor yet.  Well, I could've, but I would've gotten covered in sawdust, dirt and frost, and I still had to go to work!  Unlike Mark, my work clothes aren't designed to get dirty.  Mark has a whole new wardrobe these days, forget the nice shoes and Tommy Bahama shirts, nowadays it's all about Carhartts.  He's got flannel lined ones, coveralls (which he loves!), and some partially waterproof ones.  I've been obsessed with buying plates on eBay lately, he's been buying Carhartts.

Progress continues on the house.  We now have all the outside walls of the first floor, and all the inside walls except the stairs to the 2nd floor.  We have our front door framed in and it's huge!
It snowed recently so we had some snow in the living room.  Then as it melted, it was raining in the basement.  Hopefully not a sign of things to come!  =)
Mark has finally solved our generator problem.  Our excavator is behind schedule and so we don't have temporary power yet, so we've had to bring in generators for the framers to use.  We've been through four generators, plus a rented one.  Mark has been borrowing, buying, repairing, buying, borrowing, repairing, and renting generators for about three weeks.  They stop running, the aren't strong enough, they stop running.  So we finally went back and bought the big one we saw at a pawn shop, and it's working perfectly.  It's bigger and running smoothly.  Finally!  Guess we just needed to spend the bigger bucks from the start and we would've been fine.
