Construction diary:

July 2005

7-27-05

I head over to the lot after work to take pictures of the progress.  I’m accosted by the neighbors now free-range chickens.

7-26-05

Mark heads out to check out the work on the site.  They only surprise so far is that the sewer is deeper than we thought it was.  We were never able to check the depth since all the covers were locked.  This results in needing another truckload of gravel.  We were warned that off-site development has much more potential for surprises, i.e. cost overruns.  On-site is not usually a problem, raw lots don’t generally have random unmarked utilities running across them.  The geo-tech came out and checked our soil and it’s appropriate to put back in the trenches, it has the proper amount of moisture and will compact appropriately.  [Don’t ask me, I’m just keeping the diary.  JCW]  We’re still using gravel for more stability.

7-25-05 Monday

CONSTRUCTION HAS ACTUALLY BEGUN!!!!!!  Jean goes out and visits the site to see that work is actually taking place, that it has actually begun!  They are digging across the road at the u-turn to Becky’s house (the one July 2005 pictures that shows the workmen).  They’ve also dug in the eco block back on top by the fire hydrant.  We’re digging the water main in the right-of-way.  We don’t have our building permit yet as we’ve been advised not to spend any more $$ before we get the loan as we won’t get reimbursed for it.  The permit & requisite bonding is many thousands of dollars that we’d like to not spend out-of-pocket.  Loan should be approved this week.  At least that’s what Curtis tells us.

7-23-05

Mark goes to the site and takes down the Fong’s chain link fence.  We hope to re-use the chain link when we put the fence back up, but we’re not sure if that will work.

7-22-05

Pipe and supplies for Monday are dropped off, hence why the van had to go YESTERDAY!!!

7-21-05

Work with Becky to remove the green VW Van that is a science experiment.  Tow it at about 10:30 at night (sorry everyone!)

Meet neighbor Eric Disch.

The backhoe & 1 eco block are onsite!!!

7-18-05

Pre-construction meeting on site with same gal from King County.  All goes well.

Meet neighbors Becky Love, and Jenny Disch.

7-15-05

Mark has a pre-construction meeting with the lady from King County about the permits for the digging in the right-of-way.  All goes well.

7-10-05

Move the tub, doors, table, chairs, couch, lights, quartz, and steam generator down to Jim’s warehouse in Chehalis.  Stay the night there.  See the new kitchen sink:  Kohler; Harborview.  Yes, Jean is sold on it.

7-5-05

Buy an antique 1923 clawfoot tub, doors & steam generator at 2nd Use.  Transport these items to Greg’s storefront.  Everyone is being extremely generous to us.  Greg, and especially Jim.
