Construction diary:

April 2005

4-28-05

Mark gets the rest of the white quartz from 2nd Use, gets 5 low voltage lights and two more boxes of decorative tile.  Good deal.

4-29-05

Mark talks to Curtis, it looks like the land is going to appraise at 200K, 80K more than we paid for it.  It looks like with the land value and all the money we’ve already spent, we might not have to put any more money down.  This will leave us with a large cushion on which to work the high payment from.

Also get e-mail from City that the 21-day period will begin May 9th and be over May 30th.  This notice will go out to all residences within 500 ft of our property, not the 300 ft previously sent out.  The good news is this only adds 5 additional people (including one bank).  If no one appeals, all is well.  If someone does, that will delay us.  The good news is they have to appeal on the basis that the City didn’t follow the procedure, or with regard to mitigation of project impacts, or new information.  The immediate neighbor’s claim of financial hardship should not apply.  <fingers-crossed>

Go to the City and inquire about the permit.  Needs to happen with the Modification, so we ask about the modification.  ‘oh, it’s about 3-4 weeks out’ we discover that there is an additional 21-day public review period.  Frustrated as all hell.  Go to the land and meet with Greg & Dave the excavator.  Take the ‘before’ pictures from the two vantage points.  Stand in the forest for a few minutes.  All is well.  Then we go to UBuildIt and talk budget.  Jean is still remarkably zen about the delay and the money.

4-22-05

Get letter from City’s consultant that our plans have been approved, but the permit still needs to be issued by the city.  Hurrah!

4-12-05

Massive amounts of driving around on the day we leave for Canada to get the plans into the city before we go.  Jean gets plans from architect in Bellevue, drives them to engineers in Everett, and then back to city in Kenmore.  This is also the day the tanker truck spilled coal tar and shut down I-5 and an 18-wheeler went all the way across I-405 [I saw it going up to Everett].  Both freeways were shut down in those directions.

Meet with the Fong’s

The year is spent getting the modification put together, buying stuff for the house, budgeting out the house, hitting 2nd use all the time, working on financing.

Find Sink, door, mudroom sink, faucet, sexy faucet,

Get letter from consultant that the building plans aren’t up to code.  Back the plans go to the architect.
